The Internet is booming.
And it’s not just for music.
It’s for movies.
That’s the takeaway from an analysis of more than 1.2 billion clicks and views of the top movie-related keywords on the Web this week.
Spotify and Netflix are the top performers with more than 3.5 billion and 2.7 billion clicks, respectively.
Netflix has about 4 billion and 3 billion, respectively, according to data from Akamai.
Spotify is the only streaming-video service that has more than 2 billion and 1 billion clicks.
The next big thing for online video may not be Spotify, but Netflix, which has been ramping up its streaming offerings.
It has been adding thousands of new movies and shows each month, including a new comedy series called Orange Is the New Black.
The service is also adding new titles to its catalog, including the first-ever Netflix Original Series, House of Cards.
The big question: Can Netflix get its content on other streaming services?
“The market for digital video is changing.
It is much more diverse than ever before,” said Mark Gersh, a senior vice president of research for Akamais.
“This is an opportunity for us to capitalize on that opportunity.”
Netflix has said it wants to build a video library of up to 20 billion hours.
Netflix recently added an additional 100 hours to its streaming catalog for the first time in its history.
The company has been testing a streaming service with a subscription plan, but the plan has not been announced.
The other streaming companies have not yet revealed pricing or other details about their plans.
Some of the services, such as Amazon Prime Video, charge a flat monthly fee for all content.
Other streaming services charge a subscription fee and charge for access to the content on their own sites.
But the trend toward streaming services is likely to accelerate in the next few years as streaming becomes more common.
Amazon Prime has been popular with streaming-movie fans for years.
Last year, the company launched a Prime Video-like service called VideoOnDemand, with access to thousands of movies and TV shows.
Netflix’s own video service, dubbed Netflix Original, is not yet available for Prime members.
“I think Netflix has the ability to become a true subscription service in a way that Amazon has not,” said Kevin McNeil, an analyst at Forrester Research.
“I think it will be the Netflix that is in the long run.”
