The Adelaide Crow have announced a new name and logo, but it will be their home and home ground.
The Crows will be officially named the Crows after their new home ground, the Adelaide Oval.
“It is fitting and it is a way of marking our roots,” the club said.
“We will be known as the Cuckoos, a word which is used to describe our football club, but also to express our love for our community.”
The Cuckoo’s Nest, the original home of the Adelaide Cattlemen, is also the name of the city of Adelaide.
The team will use a new logo which is based on a cuckoo crest which will also be used by the AFL.
“The cuckoos’ nest is a symbol of our community and our football team,” the COO of the Cucks said.
Adelaide Crows COO and Cuckoolander COO Ian Rennie said the new logo was based on the cucko’s symbol and the team’s colours.
“Cuckoos and Crows are a common word in our community, so we wanted to incorporate this into the new crest and name,” Mr Rennies said.
The club also said the crest and the new home would also be displayed on the club’s website.
“A new logo will be released at the end of next year,” the statement read.
“All of the information will be updated to reflect this new identity.”
The AFL has a long history of naming clubs after animals and local landmarks, with the Cremers and the Western Bulldogs being among the first to do so.
The Bulldogs will continue to be known by the name they have since 1900, when they moved from Sydney.
The AFL will be hosting a “cuckoo hunt” on Thursday night at the MCG.
“Our football team has had a long and rich history with the cucks and crows, and we are honoured to be associated with this great breed,” Adelaide Cuckools co-owner Greg Pemberton said.
“The Adelaide Cucks will be able to continue to play their brand of footy with pride at the new venue.”
The Adelaide Football Club will play their home games at the Adelaide Park, which is being redeveloped to become a community sports facility.
The first game of the 2017 season is being played at the Stadium, which will be open to the public on Thursday.
The Adelaide Cup will also return to the city’s main stadium on Thursday evening, as the league begins its second season in the city.
The game against the Melbourne-Gillard Lions will be played at Adelaide Oval on Friday night.
The 2016 AFL Champion Adelaide Crescents will take on the Greater Western Sydney Lions on Saturday night.
