We’re all guilty of “wink-nudge-winks,” but it seems the NHL isn’t the only one celebrating the birth of the March 11 holiday.
On social media, people are taking to the internet to show off their new-found appreciation for the holiday, and even some of the league’s best players have taken to Instagram to celebrate the occasion.
While some of these celebratory videos feature a familiar NHL player like Connor McDavid, a couple of other NHL stars are taking a different tack.
In the latest clip, Alex Ovechkin takes to Instagram and is joined by teammate Alex Ondrej Palat, a forward with the Washington Capitals.
The two men, who were teammates for two seasons at the 2016 Sochi Olympics, are playing a clip from the new video game “Super Smash Bros.”
The clip begins with Ovechenkyn, who has been on the ice with McDavid and Ondreso, talking to the camera.
“Happy birthday, everyone!” the two men are heard saying in the video.
“Congratulations on a great day in your life, Alex,” Ondrekyn said.
“You’re a great teammate, Alex.”
Ondrekkin also took a few shots at the Washington Post for its coverage of the Olympic games.
Ondreje says the video is meant to show how the new version of “Super Mario Brothers” will affect people’s day.
Olympic games were cancelled in the U.S. due to the coronavirus, but the NHL has yet to release a schedule for its game.
